The Colombo International Arbitration Centre (CIAC) made a notable appearance at FITUR 2025, the prestigious global tourism trade fair held in Madrid, Spain, from January 22 to 26. With thousands of attendees and 9,000 exhibitors from 156 countries, FITUR offered CIAC an excellent opportunity to connect with international tourism stakeholders. As Sri Lanka’s leading institution for ICC arbitration and mediation, CIAC highlighted its critical role in resolving disputes that could hinder the tourism industry’s growth, including contractual conflicts, payment disputes, and cross-border misunderstandings.
The tourism sector’s rapid expansion brings both exciting opportunities and complex challenges. CIAC’s expertise ensures businesses can tackle these issues efficiently, safeguarding partnerships and maintaining stability. “Arbitration provides a faster, more flexible alternative to litigation,” a CIAC representative emphasized. “It’s essential for an industry as dynamic as tourism.”
FITUR 2025 also celebrated the cultural diversity that drives tourism. The Sri Lankan pavilion, featuring a delegation of 28 companies, showcased traditional Kandyan dance performances and other cultural promoting events, captivating attendees and highlighting the importance of sensitivity in international dealings—a core principle in CIAC’s dispute resolution approach. Through its participation, CIAC reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the tourism industry with world-class arbitration services.
